Sleeping a Dream and Living a Nightmare?

I went to sleep to Dream and woke up to a nightmare.  My dream was perfect; it was the waking up to reality that was the nightmare.  I got dressed frustrated because when I went into my closet, I couldn’t find anything to wear.  I thought to myself, I’d just worn that two days ago, that was dirty and I could never get the stain out.  I realized my clothes and shoes were scuffed, old, torn, linty, over worn, small, big… My Nightmare… When I turn the television on, I see clothing commercials; gentlemen wearing nice tailored suits, shoe sales… I yelled “Why is their dream better than mine?

I went to make breakfast and I didn’t have the food I wanted and my cookware was worn, scraped, and in need of being replaced… My Nightmare… I turned it to Food Network and they were advertising a sale on everything and giving some away in a contest that I missed the deadline to register… I yelled “Why is their dream better than mine?”

I left my house and ignored my mailbox that I haven’t checked for two days because all I get are bills.  I got into my car.  I started it; it made that weird noise, hesitated, and then cut off.  I restarted it because that’s just how it operates.  My tires need to be replaced, it’s cold, my heat takes so long to start kicking in and it only pumps out heat when I’m pressing the gas pedal.  I have 48 more payments left on a high mileage car with no repair warranty… My Nightmare… All of a sudden the BMW next to me starts up, mirrors adjust, lights come on, and I can hear the fan blowing heat from outside the car.  There wasn’t anyone in it!  I yelled “Why is their dream better than mine?”

I arrive to work late due to traffic, tons of assignments, overdue dates, and a bunch of people I don’t have the best relationship with nor have a desire to obtain.  Work is so mundane; work I don’t love, pay is not enough, no chance of increase in pay but all the possibilities of an increased workload.  No chance of promotion for years to come due to the system… My Nightmare…  The Director, CEO, CFO, Owner are coming today to see how they became successful and what they have built.  I yelled “Why is their dream better than mine?”

I get an anonymous/blocked call on my cell. I ignore it.  I get a call on my work phone and I answer.  “Is this insert name here?”  I answer and immediately the person on the other line says “Hi, this is an attempt to collect a debt…” My Nightmare… My coworker calls everyone into their office and announces “I’ve saved, no debt, I’m retiring, and traveling the world for a year”.  I yelled “Why is their dream better than mine?”

I get off work and head home to NOBODY.  My place is silent and I need to cook for myself.  I turn on the TV and see a couple cooking and eating together.  Great! I am out of olive oil and I need it to finish the meal… My Nightmare… I walk to the store and see a couple holding hands and discussing who is going to cook or clean what.  I get to the store and forget my wallet… My Nightmare…  I overhear a woman tell her man, “Oh Babe, you left your wallet on the table, I got it, plus you always pay.”  He kisses her on the forehead.  I yelled “Why is their dream better than mine?”

I walk back home and cooked without the oil so my meal is slightly burned and is missing the taste I wanted.  I turn the TV back on and the writer of my favorite show comes out and thanks everyone for watching, supporting, and aiding in their success… My Nightmare…  I yelled “Why is their dream better than mine?”

Finally I yelled “ENOUGH” and followed that up with “WHY IS THEIR DREAM BETTER THAN MINE?”  I drop to my knees and hear “Their dream isn’t better; they are living it, while you are endorsing your nightmare.  Live your dream, stop sleeping on it.”
